Les Pitons, St Lucia

St LuciaSt Lucia is a lush island in the Caribbean with beautiful beaches and a mountainous, volcanic interior. St Lucia is 24 miles long and 14 miles in width. The twin peaks of Les Pitons provide a dramatic background to the island's luxuriant rainforests. An independent member of the Commonwealth since 1979, it has a population of more than 166,000. St Lucia's capital is Castries, an increasingly popular cruise stopover. The island has expanded its tourism industry considerably but is still not over-deveoped and provides an attractive, easily accessible Caribbean destination for European and North American visitors.
